Given the disastrous impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the travel industry, new investments are picking up in the sector with the end of lockdowns.

Now, Greek transportation startup, Welcome Pickups has recently secured €5.3M in funding after it claims to have successfully survived the COVID pandemic by optimising operations and achieving growth and financial results in 2022.

The funding saw participation from existing investors, Market One Capital, Flashpoint, and Venture Friends.

The European startup witnessed a 50% growth rate and launched over 30 new destinations, bringing the company’s total locations to 100 worldwide — and served over 1 million travellers.

Founded in 2015 in Athens, Greece by Alexandros Trimis and Savvas Georgiou, Welcome Pickups is a VC-backed travel tech startup that has turned simple airport pickups into value-driven travel experiences.

Welcome Pickups CEO Alex Trimis mentioned: “The additional funding will be used to accelerate the company’s geographical reach with a goal to double its destination network, focusing strongly on launching new destinations in North and South America”. Alex Trimis added that “a portion of the funds will also go to further improving customer experience and developing new products to support the company’s mission of creating a complete, personalised, and inclusive in-destination travel experience for all.”
